Support for post adoption and SGO families 

 As an approved provider for the Adoption Support Fund (ASGSF), Dr Helen Smith offers specialist assessments and therapeutic interventions for children, young people, and families who have experienced developmental and relational trauma, attachment difficulties, and loss.

As a Chartered Specialist Child and Educational Psychologist, Dr Helen Smith’s work is grounded in a deep understanding of the impact of early experiences on children’s emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and relationships.

 She provides:

•  Specialist ASGSF Assessments – taking a holistic view of a child’s trauma and attachment experiences and needs, leading to a therapeutic support plan identifying the most appropriate therapies to meet the child and family’s needs.

•  Therapeutic Work – drawing on DDP-informed and Theraplay-informed approaches to strengthen attachment, promote trust, and build safe, nurturing relationships.

•  Therapeutic Parenting – supporting parents and carers with practical strategies and a reflective space to help them feel confident and connected in their parenting.

•  EMDR for Children – available from April 2026, offering an evidence-based approach to help children process and recover from traumatic experiences.

•  CBT and ACT Approaches – integrating cognitive and acceptance-based strategies where helpful to support children’s emotional regulation, resilience, and wellbeing.
